February 16 is Elizabeth Peratrovich Day
Elizabeth
Peratrovich Day provides an opportunity to remind the
public of the invaluable contribution of this Native
Alaskan leader who was an advocate for Native
citizens and their rights. This courageous woman could
not remain silent about injustice, prejudice and discrimination.
In 1988, the Alaska State
Legislature established February 16 as the annual Elizabeth
Peratrovich Day to commemorate the anniversary of the
signing of the Anti-Discrimination Act.
Anchorage School Board resolution honoring Elizabeth Peratrovich
On Jan. 23, 2012 the Anchorage School Board approved a resolution
recognizing Feb. 16, 2012, as Elizabeth Peratrovich Day.
Cable channel 14 programming
Channel 14 will run two shows in honor of Elizabeth Peratrovich Day on Feb. 16: "Rain Country" and Diane Benson's "When My Spirit Raised its Hands."
