Social Studies Curriculum
The Social Studies Six-Year Plan seeks to provide ASD educators the tools requisite to facilitate students’ lifelong civic competence and a love of learning, based upon a strong multidisciplinary foundation of knowledge and skills. History, geography, and civics/government are the core content areas students explore to accomplish these objectives. Social studies standards (skills and content) drive the curriculum, and other literacy and math skills are reinforced in order to meet these goals. Read the Six-Year Plan for Social Studies »
Current curriculum and pacing guides for grades 7 through 10 are found using the links on the left. Curricula for U.S. Government, Economics, high school electives and elementary social studies are in various stages of review and redesign. The adopted curriculum under review in those areas is available using the links on the left.

Alaska Network for Understanding American History |
 The Alaska Network for Understanding American History (ANUAH) is providing a host of free resources and professional development opportunities for all Alaskan educators who teach American history in their classrooms. This is the first year of a five-year project, funded through a Teaching American History (TAH) grant from the U.S. Department of Education Office of Innovation and Improvement.
An expanding number of rural Alaskan school districts (14 at present) are joining in partnership with the Anchorage School District, the University of Alaska Anchorage, the National Archives (Pacific Alaska Region), the University of Alaska Geography Program and the Alaska Staff Development Network to grow this statewide professional development network.
The goal of our organization is to create a sustaining, statewide, 21st century community of practice, for all Alaskan educators interested in expanding their abilities to teach American history and to create a clearinghouse and archive for useful resources, collaborative projects and curriculum related to this purpose.
